General Information
Clothing
Keewaydin does not require a camp uniform, but rugged outdoor clothes are the
general rule. We do recommend that each camper buy a Keewaydin shirt. Our camp
store offers a variety of Keewaydin clothing such as tee shirts and sweats,
as well as tripping equipment. A complete clothing list is provided when boys
apply. You may purchase some items from our website.
Laundry
Laundry is done weekly at the camp at no extra charge.
Academic Tutoring
Tutoring is available in reading, writing, Spanish, mathematics, and certain
other subjects based on the tutors available at camp.
Location and Transportation
Keewaydin is located on Lake Dunmore in the heart of the Green Mountains of
Vermont, 10 miles south of Middlebury. It is 200 miles from Boston; 275 miles
from New York City; and 150 miles from Hartford, Connecticut. An international
airport in Burlington, Vermont, one hour away, offers air access from almost
anywhere. We also provide a chartered, chaperoned bus to and from New York City.
Scholarship
Fund
The Waboos Hare Endowment Fund and the General Breed Scholarship Fund provide
financial aid to a limited number of campers and families who would not otherwise
be able to afford Keewaydin's tuition. Full information is available upon request.
Accreditation
Keewaydin is an Accredited Camp, under the aegis of the American Camping Association.
For this, the camp meets extensive ACA standards in program, personnel, administration,
and facilities.
Visiting
Parents are welcome to visit camp after the first two weeks of a boy's stay.
The best time to visit is at mid-season. We will send you a list of comfortable
lodging accommodations in the area.
Sunday Circle
A non-sectarian Sunday service called Sunday Circle is held each week, out-of-doors
whenever possible. At Sunday Circle, a member of the camp staff speaks to the
boys about such values as friendship, appreciation of nature, sharing, teamwork,
and caring for each other.
Admission Policy
Keewaydin accepts all children who meet the criteria for admission regardless
of race, color, handicap, religion, or national origin.
